Hawthorne Kitchen Remodel

In 2023, the owners of this home in Portland’s Hawthorne district embarked on the transformative journey to remodel and expand their outdated kitchen. The catalyst for this renovation was a growing family and a passion for both cooking and entertaining guests.

Collaborating with our team at Lamont Bros., the homeowners sought to create a design that not only expanded their kitchen area but also personalized the functionality and aesthetics of their space.
The clients had clear objectives in mind — they knew that they needed more space, both for storage and for accommodating multiple people in the kitchen comfortably. On top of that, an open layout connecting the dining area to the kitchen was a major priority, fostering an inviting atmosphere for guests.

In terms of functionality, the clients wanted to optimize the kitchen’s layout by rearranging the layout and adding luxury cabinet features like a trash pull-out, specialty inserts, and rollout shelves.
The major challenge for this project would be to expand the kitchen without altering the home’s original footprint. However, by repurposing some of the garage into new living space, our team was able to meet this goal for the project.

The internal layout changes in the kitchen were also significant. The range and fridge switched places, enhancing the natural flow of traffic for cooking. We also introduced an unconventionally-shaped island to maximize counter space, complemented by a bench under the window for cozy seating.

The homeowners were deeply invested in the aesthetic of their kitchen, opting for a vibrant green theme and open shelving to display their cookbooks. They chose durable and stylish Dekton countertops to endure the demands of avid cooking, paired with custom inset cabinets from Portland-based Knight Cabinetry, blending practicality with elegance. The backsplash features a captivating green tile by Bedrosian, while the induction range and stainless steel appliances add a contemporary touch.

This project resulted in a kitchen that meets the homeowner’s lifestyle needs and stylistic preferences. The new space provides an open, welcoming environment for family cooking and entertaining.
