When it comes to material choices for a shower, you have no shortage of selections. Tile is a traditional option, with lots of shapes, sizes, and colors to choose from. You can also opt for a stone slab shower, such as granite or quartz, which can make a real splash. But if you’re looking for something a bit different and a little more budget-friendly, you may want to consider the Wetwall shower wall panel system.
What is Wetwall?
Wetwall is made from a mix of 5% Wood and 95% plastic core. That base is construction bonded with decorative top and bottom laminate. The panels come in 8 off-the-shelf styles, but can be customized further if desired. And the panel edges come in three variations: flat, tongue/groove edge, and bullnose. Each panel is about half an inch thick.
What’s the installation like?
Installing Wetwall is relatively easy. It can be placed over existing tile (as long as it’s structurally sound), and unlike tile, no grout is needed. If there’s no existing tile, a cement backer board is used as the base. The panels themselves snap together with a tongue and groove system and can be trimmed to size.
In terms of maintenance, the panels can be cleaned with just water and soap or other standard cleaning products.
What about price?
Expect to spend around $750-$1,000 to cover the cost of materials for most standard shower spaces, but the size and complexity of the space will factor in to the price. That’s lower than the full cost of a tile shower in most cases, and much less expensive than stone slabs like marble or quartz, which can be two to four times as much.
Can it be used on the floor?
No, Wetwall is not meant to be used as flooring material, but in addition to showers it can be used for tub walls, wainscoting, and backsplashes. The panels can even be installed on ceilings.
