Turning an existing Layout into a Contemporary, Budget-Friendly Kitchen
This kitchen remodel in the Tanner Basin neighborhood of West Linn is a great example of how our team at Lamont Bros. uses creative solutions to bring beautiful, budget-conscious designs to life. By keeping the existing layout, we transformed the kitchen into a stylish, open-concept space perfect for entertaining—all while staying on budget.
What Were the Goals of This Kitchen Remodel?
The homeowners loved entertaining, but their kitchen layout posed a few key challenges. The space in the kitchen wasn’t efficient, largely due to an unnecessary angled wall that took up valuable space. The kitchen’s existing style was outdated, and the homeowners wanted a more modern look that aligned with their vision of a contemporary, open floor plan. They were ready to make their kitchen not only more spacious but also better suited for hosting family and friends.
Our design team worked closely with the homeowners to maximize their space without completely overhauling the original layout. By focusing on creative adjustments and efficient design decisions, we were able to create a more functional, visually appealing kitchen that perfectly matched their needs.
How Did We Solve These Issues in the New Design?
To open up the kitchen and create a more open, contemporary design, we made several key changes:
Removed the Unnecessary Angled Wall: The angled wall that served no real purpose was removed, providing additional square footage and creating a more open cooking area to work in.
Eliminated the Large Soffit and Angled Island: By removing the soffit and replacing the angled island with a rectangular one, we created a clean, open workspace that naturally connected to the rest of the living area.
Thin Profile Hood Vent: The homeowners chose a thin profile hood vent to complement the new island, emphasizing the clean lines of the open concept plan.
How Has This Remodel Changed the Clients’ Lives?
With the removal of the original wall, the kitchen now feels much more spacious and seamlessly connects with the surrounding areas of the home. The contemporary, open concept design not only makes day-to-day use more enjoyable but also makes entertaining guests much easier and more enjoyable.
Best of all, the only major change to the space’s layout was removing the wall. The overall layout of the kitchen remained mostly the same, saving the homeowners the cost and headache of moving appliances or electrical components.
