The owners of this Portland ranch-style home faced a common dilemma: an underutilized garage that was more of a storage space than anything else. Recognizing the untapped potential of this area, they decided it was time for a transformation. The goal? To do a garage conversion on their Portland home, turning the space into a functional living suite complete with a bathroom and a studio.
The existing garage space had been partially converted to living space during a previous remodel. However, it was divided into several smaller, impractical spaces that were difficult to use as living space.
One portion of the garage served as a makeshift studio, while another was a laundry room. The rest was essentially a storage area. The garage doors had been left intact but were essentially non-functional, and the space lacked essential living amenities like a bathroom. To the homeowners, it was clear that the area was not living up to its potential.
To bring their vision to life, the project involved finishing the previously converted space according to higher quality standards, while also tearing down several temporary walls to open it up and make the
space more welcoming. Our team reconfigured the former garage space to create a closet and separate the bathroom from the studio.
The new bathroom space features a fiberglass shower, toilet, and bathroom vanity. The design team had to work around an existing chimney stack within the bathroom space, adding a unique architectural challenge to the space.
The exterior of the home saw significant improvements as well. The old garage doors were framed in and replaced with windows that matched the existing ones, enhancing the home's curb appeal. Our design team also made sure that the exterior maintained some symmetry and consistency in its aesthetic appearance.
The completion of this garage conversion has totally transformed these Portland homeowner's living space.
