Creating A Wheelchair-Friendly Home With Updated Style

When these homeowners came to Lamont Bros., their primary goal was to remodel their Milwaukie home to improve wheelchair accessibility while updating the design to reflect their style. One of the homeowners uses a wheelchair daily, so it was crucial that the home be functional, easy to navigate, and comfortable. The project focused on three main areas: the kitchen, bathroom, and entertainment center.

By focusing on accessibility, we transformed this Milwaukie home into a space that serves the homeowners’ needs without sacrificing style. The result is a functional, welcoming home custom-designed for the homeowners’ daily needs and design preferences.

Bathroom Features

We removed the large soaking tub, which the homeowners rarely used, and replaced it with a curbless, custom tile shower for easier wheelchair access. Our team also expanded the water closet and installed two pocket doors at a 90-degree angle, creating a wide, accessible entryway.

To enhance comfort and functionality, we also incorporated the following features and products:

  • Laticrete “STRATA_HEAT” System: This convenient feature provides underfloor heating, adding warmth and comfort during colder months.
  • Emser “Heska” Hexagonal Tile: The tile’s geometric pattern adds visual interest, while its matte finish provides slip resistance, essential for safety and ADA complilance.
  • Kohler Hand Shower: Offering both versatility and accessibility, the shower’s adjustable height and handheld option make it ideal for both seated and standing use.
