Adding a Functional Garage and Hobby Room

The homeowners had long dreamed of building an addition onto their Damascus home to accommodate their vehicles and the homeowner’s sewing hobby. When they were finally ready to undertake the project, they came to our team at Lamont Bros. to help them create a functional, comfortable area for both their personal and hobby needs.

The primary goal of the project was to create more space. The original design of the home had no garage, and the homeowner wanted additional room for her sewing group.

They wanted to design the new space to feel like a natural extension of the home rather than an afterthought. It was important that the addition maintained the aesthetic and functionality of the home’s original design intent.

The Design

We designed the addition in a way that blended seamlessly with the existing structure by mirroring the structure’s shape and style on the opposite side of the home.

The 1,440 square-foot, single-level addition occupies part of the side yard. It features a two-car garage and a large open room where the owner can set up her sewing equipment.

One of the primary challenges during the construction process was managing the slope and grading required for the new addition. As the home was built on the side of a slope, we needed to excavate. The team worked diligently to ensure that the grading was done properly.

The expanded space has allowed the homeowners to fully enjoy their property. With a larger garage for their vehicles and a dedicated space for the homeowner’s sewing group, they now have the room they need to live more comfortably. The seamless design and added functionality have made their home more versatile and enjoyable for everyday use.
